Quarantine description

The genre of 3D-Action began to develop in the 90-ies, the beginning of what was primarily the efforts of id Software. Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake – all of these games have become classics. However, sometimes it seems that the "shooter" lacks some "fresh momentum" that all of them were fundamentally the same: run, shoot, weave through the crowd of monsters, collect the key, come out to the next level, run, shoot... Manufacturers, of course, tried different ways to break this pattern of standardization action. Many games (same as Doom) greatly helped the multiplayer, others take some of their own original solutions. Now we will talk about one of such solutions, embodied in the game Quarantine.

Difficult to say exactly what it is. Arcade drive-by shooting? Close, but incomplete. Simulator taxi driver? It isn't that difficult. Completing missions on the car? And this can not be limited. This is a dynamic game with light management elements, with frequent firing and a large number of missions.

The main character is really a taxi driver, but his car is not similar to those that ride through the streets of modern cities. She hung the armor plate on the roof is a machine gun and gradually appears more and more weapons. Why is Drake (the name of our alter ego in this game) you have to be ready to attack? To find out – refer to the history of the game.

The city of Kemo – one of the centers of production of hover cars, flying cars, replacing conventional vehicles. Of course, in any large city there is crime, but here it became so large scale that the authorities were powerless. It took the Corporation Omnicorp, and the city quickly turned into a prison was the start of the project "Quarantine", making prisoners of all the inhabitants of Kemo. Later the Corporation decided to mix with water a drug that reduces the aggressiveness of people, however, miscalculated: the bacteria living in the water, provoked the opposite effect – and now Kemo overrun by insane maniacs, eager to kill each other.

Drake was formerly an employee of Omnicorp, but spoke out against it and was punished left in Kemo. Way to survive for him was it a taxi, and the purpose of the Drake set himself to get outside of Kemo, learning the local Resistance movement need a password.

The essence of the game is to drive around town to pick up a hitchhiker passengers and deliver them to the destination, for which Drake receives monetary compensation. Money in Quarantine need to repair the car and its various improvements (armor, weapons, etc.); weapon, in turn, the need for more effective "separation" of the machines of competitors and a more effective fight against "bosses", and the task for the destruction of which gives you Resistance.

Weapons there are as many as six types, each with a few stages of improvement (by the way, the most powerful weapon isn't always the best: compare "want" and "can"). Armor too is of three types – the type depends on the strength, - in addition, workshops have rechargeable batteries and turbostroitel, allowing less dependent on hover-network, which gives the power to the machines. They are all important, they all affect the game.

Cruelty in Quarantine at times simply off the charts. To push bystanders out of the way, in the order of things (I am immediately reminded of the famous Carmageddon), to shoot passing cars with the machine gun or blast missiles – the sweetest thing. However, to shoot all in a row is not necessary – the enemies are endless, unlike your cartridges. The main task – to pass the mission and ultimately the password for the next level.

The picture on the screen, in my opinion, even a bit weaker and Doom (although the cars, by the way, three-dimensional), but it is seen necessary, and nothing more, in fact, not required. Remain the main dynamics and the need to monitor the condition of equipment: don't forget, a broken car – certain death for the main character.

I have to admit that the game failed. It's not a breakthrough, but a very worthy example of the original 3D action games. If you are bored with the monotony of the classic shooters, but I want to do some fighting with some scoundrels, or if you want something similar to arcade racing, but with a lot more freedom of action, try Quarantine. It's possible that this game will be able to delay you for a long time.
