Ancient Land of Ys

Kyodai Software Marketing, Inc. developed a Action RPG game in the year 1989 called Ancient Land of Ys. You can play it online now.

Ancient Land of Ys description

Great "old school" combat RPG with top view, published at the time on multiple gaming platforms.

Very pleased with the plot of this game - it is, as befits the genre, but nothing more did not come up.

So, you play as a wandering adventurer Adol that old fortune-teller learns about the mysterious extinct Ancient Land of Ys, a mystery which is hidden in six magical books that was stolen by an evil magician Maleficus to use for evil. It is necessary to stop him. That's all. No backstory, no plot twists, turns, intrigue, branches, intricate backgrounds.

The gameplay is also good: the game is very much different from "traditional" RPGs of those times, in the first place - the fact that this so-called "combat" RPG. Battles occur in real time. No hesitation, no pause - it quickly and clearly. The variety of monsters happy; I am glad also that not every monster can be defeated in open battle, often have to attack from the side or from behind.

Role-playing elements, in contrast, is much weaker than in other games of the genre, all characteristics are influenced primarily on a character's fighting ability. That is, we kill monsters, gain points, become stronger, kill stronger monsters, they get more points, and so on. Inventory too, but again, most of it is a variety of weapons that you can buy.

Graphically for 1989, the game looks great, and dynamic gameplay in this particular case, goes good for her.

Perhaps fans of "proper" RPG I'd play is not advised - may be disappointed. So recommend to fans of good old games.

Not sure how to pass your time, why not play our classic videogame Ancient Land of Ys online? And the best part, it is for free!
