Devil Land

Devil Land is a Action game released by Springwald Software in 1994. It is an interesting DOS game and a must play for all old videogame lovers.

Devil Land description

An artifact of the German gaming industry – platformer with a side view, which is generally impossible to find on the Internet.

Play in it we have a red Indian for a small demon by the name of Giovanni. Its task is consistent through several dozen levels, each of which is necessary to find and take three bonus called "Golden hair", as only their presence will allow you to activate existing at the end of each level, the Elevator or some of its likeness with which Giovanni goes to the next level. The global meaning of what is happening is not explained – and that's good.

Why the above mentioned "find and take" - because often "find" this hair is relatively easy, but the "take" - is much more complicated. And if one such hair have, for example, just long and tedious to jump on small platforms up and down (and similar platforms and difficult jumps galore here – often almost the entire level!), in order to understand how to get to another, which can be "locked" for entire rows of blocks on the lower floor level will have the most natural way to strain the brain. And it is also logical – the demon must be intelligent. The formal completion of all levels is limited in time (after the ticking of the meter to pass the level will be, even if you do everything correctly). However, if we died and was reborn - the time counter will be reset.

Enemies in the game are not very many, but they are there; I must say – pretty funny. Unfortunately, special health our demon can not boast, as well as fighting skills: he has no weapons (and take it nowhere in the game), and he dies from the slightest physical contact with the enemy or his weapon, or even just from a bad fall; the only means of dealing with enemies is naprawianie on top of them, however, it is important to remember that the game is not only living enemies, but also, for example, hostile objects, some of which "deal" are generally not allowed except to jump and not to jump up. We would like to mention that the first levels of multi-colored balls - for some reason, one of them killing the hero, even if he climbs on them, and not just faces, while others, looking exactly the same can easily be throw them down the screen in case of a successful jump on them. In some cases, by naprawianie on any block you can get a bonus: it may be an extra life (a valuable thing in this game) or even temporary invulnerability.

Finally, sometimes (for the first time, the open secret, this will be possible at the beginning of the third level) have the opportunity to open a hidden passage to a bonus level where gameplay is somewhat different from the main game: the demon had a limited time to collect as many as possible of the likes of stars, while being under water and having more than a limited supply of air. Saving during a level is impossible, but after the completion of each will be given a password to start the game next time was from the last failed level.

The graphics are two-dimensional, hand-drawn, quite bright and pleasing to the eye, although, of course, without any wonders and delights. In extremely rare review that appeared after the release of Devil Land in light, for some reason she mercilessly criticized as "poor" platformer, but what exactly is this "wretchedness", no one explained. In General this is certainly not a masterpiece, but just more than a strong "middling", a great example of "another platformer", which though not offering something new in the genre, but which, nevertheless, it is possible to spend not one or two nights. Well, we should not forget that the game is rare so that would be a true jewel in the collection of any once it started working, even the "seasoned" collector.

PS: the Game was released only in Germany and, consequently, in German language, but the text in it is very small.
