The Catacomb Abyss 3D description

Continuation of the game Catacomb 3-D. Nemesis defeated, but his minions have erected a mausoleum in memory of his Lord, and thence to the liberated lands spread darkness. The main character once again to enter into an unequal battle with evil this time to deal definitively with the Nemesis (which, of course, will not prevent that "light up" in a couple of sequels).

The game is very pretty, with interesting gameplay (not to mention the fact that it is one of the first games of the genre). Types of opponents more than the wolf, and some of them have unique features: zombies emerge from the ground (often behind the player) the skeleton of the walls; underwater trolls swam to the player under the water (the same monster is in Hexen). Although all three of the available weapons are different options for throwing a fireball at the enemy, second and third type of magic attacks use different "ammunition" (in contrast to the same wolf, where's the ammo the same for all firearms). An interesting feature - a random hit in a useful item destroys it (except for critical items like keys, crystals or scrolls), so the player has to be careful fighting monsters. Vials of healing potions the player carries, and each use restores health. These bottles are more than enough, so the problems with finding kits like in the later games of the genre, yet.

The graphics, despite the modest palette makes a good impression. The levels are quite varied in visual terms, there are "themed" enemies (zombies in the cemetery, including trolls on the aqueduct, orcs in a dungeon and the like). Despite the lack of a map, navigation is not hampered by the fact that each level is divided into locations, and the name of the current location is displayed on the screen. Useful crystal ball - the local equivalent of radar, which displays enemies and their position relative to the player. To understand the different types of opponents, you need to collect a few magic crystals scattered throughout the levels. Another interesting (and not so common) feature is the ability to stop the time with the help of special items - an hourglass - which can be found on some levels. As in other FPS, to advance through the levels you need to look for the keys, unlocking the door and in one level, and to move to the next. The keys come in four colors; interestingly, the player can be several keys of the same color, unlocking different doors. Moving blocks of the walls, as in the wolf and the upcoming games yet, but there is a destructible wall that hides as secrets and passages inside the level.

In General, is a worthy representative of the genre at the initial stage of its development, and many interesting ideas implemented in this game have been used successfully in the future.
