Star Trek: The Rebel Universe description

Adventure game with elements of space simulator for the TV series Star Trek. In the constellation of Sagittarius the Klingons are rebelling against the Federation, and all the ships sent for its suppression mysteriously move to the side of the rebels. Is subsequently determined that the Klingons own unique wave psychotronic weapons made of dilithium that allows you to take control of the mind. The only way the government of the Federation sees the installation of the Sphere around the area of the rebellion that forever insulates this area from the rest of the Universe that is not only terrible in itself, but also – potentially – can cause war with the Romulans. But before that a chance to rectify the situation given another space ship – the famous "Enterprise", which, of course, be you. The mission is designed for five years, its main goal is to deprive the Klingons of this weapon at any cost.

The gameplay is mostly similar to a very old graphic adventure without the text input, but with a completely static image; it will have to visit lots of planets, some of them friendly, some hostile, talking with NPCs, even find artifacts – for example, certain equipment without which at some point in the game does not go further. But sometimes there will be elements of the space simulator – control the ship and even the space battles in real time (though, admittedly, not especially great).

In the game the important role played by the so-called "database", to which you constantly refer. It contains a lot of information that should be read carefully, can give an idea about the way in which you can accomplish your mission. Two ways the obvious way: the first is to destroy the dilithium mine, which produces a resource for black's second – to destroy the main generator psychotronic waves, through which the Klingons subjugate others to his will. But there are many other paths and endings – both positive and negative.

All game control is with the mouse, but still, it's not quite traditional and, shall we say, very "early" point and click. The game begins "like" on the bridge – because you naturally play the role of captain of the famous ship. Before you – his team, where each member of the crew is very important and performs a specific function, so in order to do the desired action, you need to give specific orders to a specific person, and issues that need to be addressed in the flight array: paving the course of the battle with the enemy, obtaining information about the planets and stars on your way, the monitoring of the technical condition of the ship and all its systems, hyperspace jumps, receiving, and reading messages from someone else finally tracking the status of the health of the crew... So the game is still in some sense almost the first (and one of the few!) simulator of the life of the commander of the space cruiser...

But the interesting thing here is that there are often all sorts of important situations when you need to consult with the entire team, and then we will have a surprise: very often, different team members propose different, even diametrically opposed solutions to the problem, and your job as captain is to listen to everyone and choose the option that you feel is right (and in some cases can be very expensive...). There is also the possibility to hire on some planets for more team members. With regard to the above mentioned planets – the game has three types: hostile, which it is better not to fly, neutral (life supporting), where you can take only the resources to sustain life and the planet Federation, where you can also stock up on equipment, weapons, bombs and other things. Therefore, it is necessary to remember which planet is in which category.

Graphically, the game looks nice, but still pretty weird. For static images there is almost is not felt even minimal dynamics, minimal actions that we are doing something and can see some result of their actions, and for this kind of game is still important. And here – only pictures (or team, for example, the portrait of any NPC from the planet), and a similar blue background.

But if you close it all your eyes and use your imagination, the game can be very, very hard to capture, because it is really fun and in some ways even unique.
