Roland Garros 1997

A DOS game was developed by Havas Interactive SA and then released by Runn Software in 1997, the game was called Roland Garros 1997. Now you can relive the memories by playing it online here.

Roland Garros 1997 description

French tennis simulation, created under license of the famous championship.

Given a choice of ten athletes (seven men and three women; there are also three secret characters), but the real among them seems to be no. There are different modes: single match, friendly match and the championship. There are five courts in different parts of the world (including two secret; the latter you may greatly surprise). Each of the athletes has their own strengths and weaknesses, based on physical characteristics (speed, etc.); coverage of the courts is also different - it can be soil, grass, synthetic material, and after going through the three courts (if you play the championship) cement, and what it says here is not (so as not to ruin the surprise). Please note in any case that mixed gender matches men against women that took place in several tennis simulation of the time - is impossible here.

Control is relatively simple, but flow is completely controlled by the player, which was rare for those times: there are two buttons for punches - regular and twisted, in this case, after holding a specific button with the arrow keys you can adjust the direction and height of impact; estimated area exposed in the end will be marked by a white dot.

Enough high-quality graphics - full 3D and the ability to monitor what is happening from nine different angles, as well as very smooth animation the movements of the players and the stands with the audience and judges; the full version of the game announced - are the voices of the commentators, the sound of applause and the hum of the fans. Of course, models of tennis players and the effects of modern players may seem terribly poor, but in those days looked to cheer. Supported multiplayer on one computer up to four people and up to eight on LAN. Despite its obscurity, this game is completely - if only because at once, a convenient and intuitive control system - can claim the status as one of the best computer versions of tennis the mid 1990-ies.
