Gladiator description

The theme of Ancient Rome in video games can not be called unpopular, but most of the games on it strategy, although there are quests, and even an RPG. But a "Roman" game cannot be found. Before you now – virtually the only such.

This game is an isometric action with a view is almost entirely top-style Gauntlet with one very interesting peculiarity – in a number of missions, we will act together with partners (see below), that is, the game can, in theory, to read and a little strategy. No specific storyline, no "historicity" in the game and does not smell, on the contrary, the world is much closer to fantasy, where the Roman soldiers are fighting with different forest monsters.

Originally you have to "party", besides the main character will be another two soldiers, but then you have to look for (in the literal sense of the word), to hire and train soldiers on their own – alone, almost none of the tasks are performed. There are three difficulty levels to play more or less "comfortable" only in the first, the second and especially the third game turns into a very hardcore arcade with the need for tactical thinking, where the main concern is to not kill the protagonist (or the game will end).

In the unit have to be different types of soldiers, and doctors (which are referred to as fantasy word "clerics"). And those who will be under our control, and constitute, so to say, the main "charm" of the game: the actual soldiers-legionaries is just one of at least fourteen types of troops. Still, there are archers, there are Eastern looking people with daggers, there is a huge barbarians-the Germans referred to the doctors, the Celtic druids... But that's all people, and there are... Yes, there are mages (which may, for example, teleport your troops at a distance), elves, orcs, living skeletons, ghosts, sentient mucus and even super-soldiers.

Each type of troops is, as a set of standard characteristics, and a list of unique abilities, inherent only to this type. Both increases in two ways: as a result of experience received in battle, and for the money that we receive for a successful assignment (assignments are always signs in the briefings, but they are too delusional to discuss them here) and can spend to a good cause. Together with the growth characteristics grows and the General level of the type of troops that the achievement of certain size will allow soldiers to obtain some new abilities (depending on class) and change for the better any skills in a qualitative sense (that is to say, some bonus to attack).

In any case, it is necessary to say that this game is still much more arcade than even primitive strategy. Here is a job that performs only one hero (incidentally, he also needs to belong to some type of creatures), collect a huge army in no way succeed.

Graphically, the game, unfortunately, looks poorly enough, though, given its sub-genre, this is not a disadvantage. But what really hurt – so it's almost absolute identity backgrounds levels: no change, even the slightest, in the game there. There is an editor that will allow you to create your own map, but it is little different from the existing one. It supports multiplayer mode up to four players.

The verdict isn't in spite of that, a bad game with a number of interesting points that can be used primarily for training in the destruction of a large number of opponents in quick time, which will be useful in more "advanced" games of its kind.
