Gladiator, a DOS game was released by the very talented group A.G.D. in 1992. Little did they know that they will end up making history. Play this game again here.

Gladiator description

Another Spanish rarity unimaginable level, another wild joy on the subject - and another disappointment, if you tear the veil from the eyes and appeal to their own objectivity.

We have to play for the Roman Gladiator in the genre almost fighting. In the arena of the Colosseum, if not, then certainly a fairly large amphitheatre. Our enemies are both humans and lions. It would seem that the game is a dream, the embodiment of another fantasy from my childhood. And in some ways this is certainly true, but that "something". The plot, incidentally, is not at all like any relish of violence. What type of Gladiator is our protagonist, by the way, is not very clear: he is armed with a sword, but not wearing a helmet and uses a round shield among the gladiators almost never encountered; perhaps it's the murmillo, samnite or holomag. However, any historicity from this game to wait for anything not necessary.

The passage consists of four (only) of successive duels one-on-one: first fight against the lion, then against weird thick Gladiator, armed only with a Trident (if the retiarius, where the network is and why he's wearing?), then again against the lion and finally - against the Gladiator, armed exactly the same as our hero. There are only two types of kick: the "high" and "low" as well as a kind of "block" - set shield forward (this can apply and our last opponent); side view, you can move back and forth.

Neither the protagonist nor the opponents, unlike many Spanish games, do not die in one hit, especially the health of our character, very solid, shown at the bottom of the screen in the form of red scale. For each successfully held on the opponent's kick is charged a certain amount of points; after defeating one and the start of the battle with the following health if they had received wounds, recovered to the maximum, while the points have not reset, and the total score increases by new blows hit the target.

The worst here is simplicity. In case of only insignificant skill the game can go ten minutes without receiving any wounds. The artificial intelligence of enemies is not zero, but very low: they "flicker" in front of you, then closer, then moving away; installation of "block" they are easy to scare, and when slightly moving away, the enemy once again begins to approach, as soon as possible to hit it. The only "complexity" - with the lion: if he comes to you, you have to stab with the sword from below jumps if - then hold the "high" impact.

Graphic Gladiator - perhaps one of the best games from Ediciones Manali. Large sprites, a very accurate portrayal (although the palette is still CGA), the presence of the stands with the audience and even staircases (although the backgrounds are not animated), great animation poses and movements (especially jumps and drops the lions) and even the moving shadows of the fighters (but, unfortunately, the lion shadow to draw seem to have forgotten). Seeing this, remains doubly to regret that in itself, this game, despite the beauty-and actual uniqueness of the subject, it turned out easy to irritation, prolonged and monotonous. However, play is still quite possible, and its collectible value, again, is just unimaginable.

Not sure how to pass your time, why not play our classic videogame Gladiator online? And the best part, it is for free!
