Empire: Wargame of the Century description

The first graphic version of the first series of global strategies on the PC – this game, not Civilization, rightfully belongs to the honorary title of "first playable", created by mark Baldwin and Walter bright, based on their own text games in the late 70-ies. However, we have to admit that before the creation of Sid Meier's her very, very far away...

The aim of the game is extremely simple and unpretentious – you just need to conquer the world, having this for their numerous opponents. In the beginning of the game have only one city, it produced troops (six moves) that are to be send to the conquest of neighboring lands – in fact, the same cities: that is, the initial troops captured the city, made it new, went on, and so on. Types of troops only eight, there is not only infantry but also aircraft and even submarines. It is clear that each of these types has its own unique features. There are no resources at all, diplomacy is also. But if you remember that this game is the the first of these, which had graphics, all these and many other shortcomings could be forgiven.

Incidentally, the above-mentioned graphics, I guess today may seem too conventional, but still for a series of those years (and this game – still largely worth it) looks quite nice. Here are the 1987 version with the ability to run it in EGA-palette. Verdict – may not be the most interesting game of the subgenre, even for the most loyal of his fans, however, the historical value of it is truly enormous.
