Fire & Ice description

The game Fire & Ice was made by a great company Graftgold, which was two friends - Steve and Andrew Turner BRABUS. They began their career as the creators of computer games in 1983 (after the 70s played in different rock bands), creating one of the first three-dimensional games (3D Lunattack, 3D Space Wars, 3D Seiddab Attack). They finished several years after the Fire & Ice due to problems with publishers and not want to go to create a PC-only games.

Players for PC is a pathetic shadow of the game, which was on the Amiga. In the first place hit chart which had cut back to 16-color due to limitations of the used graphics engine. Because of this, the levels became pale, despite all the tricks the creators: they made a day and night, to diversity of background stars or the sunrise. Of course, if you don't compare the PC version with the Amiga version, the graphics looks very cute and lovely, but for the 92-93 years are already gone. The music is the same and the levels themselves when porting to PC is not affected.

The protagonist of the game - pretty Cool Coyot, which due to wordplay becomes Cool and Cold at the same time. Shooting small pieces of ice, he freezes the enemies, then they were scattered by single touch. From time to time enemies will fly pieces of a special key, which must be put together to complete the level. It would seem a simple goal, but achieving it is not easy. The fact that Coyote dies from a single touch, even the smallest Chipmunk-skier. By the way, the enemies are extremely fun and varied, mostly different animals - hedgehogs, seagulls, penguins, seals, somehow the Eskimos, at the following levels - hamsters-archers and many others. They are animated stunningly high quality, and the main character so all you can watch for hours: how he shakes his tail, crouches, and jumps. All of it done very smoothly.

The game is divided into several levels and worlds. The first world on which walk, only true professionals, located in the ice of Antarctica. There we will interfere with the seals, penguins, snowdrifts and icicles collapsing. Management at the first level is further complicated by the icy platforms from which the Coyote always slip. In General, we will suffer and replay the first levels many times. Latest world, according to the map that the PC version is only on the menu, will become a desert, which explains the name of the game. Between them there are also underwater levels, jungle already mentioned hamsters-archers and many more.

Separate kind words deserves music created by renowned composer game soundtracks by Jason Paige. Especially fascinating screen saver in which Coyote plays the piano from time to time accompanying his play, barking in time to the music.

Fire & Ice has received high marks from players and magazines and have become a favorite for many. The authors ported the game to different platforms, but still the best version on the Amiga and Amiga CD32 (where the graphics are even more colorful).
