Decisive Battles of the American Civil War, Vol. 3 description
Vargeym dedicated to one of the favorite themes of games in this subgenre – the Civil war in USA 1861-1865. The game consists of twenty-nine scenarios, each of which is dedicated to any one battle of this war, deemed important by the developers (with the exception of the battle of Gettysburg, which is divided into two scenarios – on the first and second days of the battle). In addition to the battles of the Civil war in the United States, the game has two scenarios from the Crimean war (which in 1853-1856 was waged by Russia against a coalition of Britain, France, Turkey and Sardinian Kingdom): this is the most major battles in the Crimea, at Alma and at Balaclava.
Three types of troops – infantry, cavalry and artillery. Each unit under the control of the player, includes from several hundred to two or three thousand people. In each battle you can play for both sides. Gameplay, naturally, step by step, is giving the troops orders and subsequent completion of the course. Orders little to hold position, advance, and attack the enemy. Your troops are not under the total control: of course, you have full control of their actions at the time of order, but if you don't pay on time, they will start to take independent action, as soon as you collide with the enemy, and sometimes the solution to a specific tactical tasks can be left and directly behind them (though, of course, it's a lottery...).
However, the most important feature of the game is not even that, but the possibility of creating on the battlefield of the so-called "command" unit, which will be like "incarnation" of the commander (i.e. you). In this game mode, the scenario changes somewhat. There remains the possibility to give very General orders to all troops involved in the battle, but to observe their performance and make adjustments can only be made in respect of those units that are in range, so to speak, of the commander; the rest will actually be left to themselves. Therefore, the commander will need to move around the battlefield, and where in a moment of battle he is more important and most needed – you decide... And remember: the commander is, in General, an ordinary combat unit that can not only be attacked by enemies and destroyed. In the case of the death of your "incarnation" the battle continues, and the ability to command an army, you have to keep, but to win the battle will be very difficult, so take care of the commander.
By themselves, the scenario here is quite short; the maximum number of moves in each of them is strictly limited; total victory (i.e. the destruction) of the enemy is not needed to win or perhaps even not always. Victory is achieved by dialing the desired number of "victory points" for killing a certain number of enemies and perform a specific set for this battle of the task (that is, as in many other similar games). A built-in script editor, with which you can create your own battle. In front of each existing scenario, it is possible to read quite extensive "introduction", which describes in detail the historical background of the battle, which certainly is a very valuable and informative information.
The graphics in these games traditionally do not appreciate, but in relation to this game is to say that she was not just there, but for a wargame – very good. Yes, it's still based and conditional squares instead of troops (and whether you want something more true fan of real war games?..), but there are cute to the eye color scheme and even some variety and the terrain detail (although the game itself is not affected very much). In General – this game will surely be a revelation for many fans of wargames due to relatively little-known, but sometimes quite difficult, especially in terms of management, not very friendly, so that everyone who wants to play, you are strongly advised to study the manual.
